We loved the Matrix!
Maybe the whole series was not fantastic, but we were there at the midnight show. We played Enter the Matrix, saw Flight of the Osiris and all the other Animatrix shorts... We were hooked.
Imagine our excitement in 2003 when we found out Samsung was releasing a working replica phone as seen in The Matrix Reloaded.
Well, as it would turn out, the phone was a piece of shit. Just like The Matrix Revolutions.
Only select retailers sold the 10,000 $500 phones and the reception was less than lukewarm.
We could list the features it had but it far more entertaining to list the features it did not have; no internet, no mp3 capability, no Bluetooth, no camera and (quite possibly the most astonishing) NO TEXTING!
The Matrix universe was all about technology and communications and this is the phone the released... They'd have been better off selling a no working replica of the phone booth used in the movie.
It did come in a cool tin box and had that green code rain built into the background but that was pretty much it. Fans were left not being able to find the phone or unlucky enough to have found the phone.
Interestingly, if you do want a phone that doesn't do anything, you can occasionally find them on eBay for a cool grand or you could just buy a Windows phone and be equally disappointed.
