Nearly 10 years ago I had the pleasure of picking up a few prints from Barry Kite at the Main Street Arts Festival out in Fort Worth.
Those three prints attract more attention than any other hanging on my walls. His combination of artistic insight and an insanely genius sense of humor make Kite's art stand out more than any other.
Kite travels around the country and globe selling and displaying his work at museums and art festivals, as seen in the video below. A key point in the video is listening to the mind-numbing drivel coming out of some people's mouths which Kite responds to in a genius way that makes apparent why his work is so wonderful.
Barry Kite's work was featured in the film Tin Cup, much to his surprise. I'm sure some set designer thought of it as a way to honor an artist they appreciated but as seen in the video, that was not the way to do it. It could also just be some ass-hat looking at one of Kite's pieces and thinking, "That'd look good behind Cheech..." Either way, Barry Kite's art is the best thing about that movie.
All videos and art are available on Barry Kite's website Aberrant Art where you can view a lot more of his art, purchase prints in various sizes and note cards and also like him on Facebook.
